Reflexion
The Sufi Bayazid says this about himself: ‘I was a revolutionary when I was young and all my prayer to God was, ‘‘Lord give the energy to change the world.’’
As I approached middle age and realised that half my life was gone without my changing a single soul, I changed my prayer to: ‘‘Lord, give me the grace to change all those who come in contact with me. Just my family and friends, and I will be content.’’
Now that I am an old man and my days are numbered, my prayer now is:
‘‘Lord, give me the grace to change myself.’’
If I had prayed this right from the start I should not have wasted my life’’.’
Intercessons
Disturb us, O Lord when we are too well pleased with ourselves; when our dreams have come true because we dreamed too little; when we have arrived in safety because we sailed too close to the shore.
Disturb us, O Lord when with the abundance of things we possess we have lost our thirst for the waters of Life; when, having fallen in love with time, we have ceased to dream of eternity; and when, in our efforts to build a new earth, we have allowed our vision of the New Heaven to grow dim.
Get us, O Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture more seas, where storms shall show your mastery, where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars.
In the name of the One who pushes back the horizons of our hopes and invites the brave to follow…
Gloire au Père et au Fils et au Saint Esprit …
Amen
